Tips For Facility Planning When Your Building Isn’t Complete

Facility Planning When Your Building Isn’t Complete

For those who are overseeing the building of a new community or recreation center, the process can seem long and strenuous. If you are a facility planner, the process can seem frustrating as you wait to begin. However, when it comes to facility planning, there are things that you can be doing as the building is still incomplete to prepare for the grand opening.
In today’s post, Sports Facility Advisory will look at the time ahead of your facility’s grand opening. There are facility planning strategies that you can utilize as you wait for your facility to be completed, and today we will examine those strategies.

Get Ahead of Scheduling

Once the facility is complete, keeping the schedule of events and programs running smoothly will be one of your top facility planning priorities. However, in the months leading up to the facility being opened, you can make that process easier by getting out ahead of scheduling. Having the first year of your programming developed and scheduled can make the process much easier when the grand opening comes.
Essentially, in the time that your facility is being built, you can get anywhere from six months to a full year ahead of your schedule, allowing you to think ahead to year two and beyond. However, this will require that you and your staff be proactive in knowing what they want to offer and developing the programming ahead of time.

Promote, Promote, Promote

Scheduling and programming will be nearly impossible if you aren’t properly promoting it to the community. It is difficult to schedule events when you don’t know how many people are going to be involved, so it is important that you canvas your community early and often. If your facility opens in the summer, promote summer programs for kids and get them signed up now rather than waiting for the facility to open.
Promoting your programming early allows you to hit the ground running when the facility opens rather than scrambling to catch up. To properly promote for facility planning purposes, utilize all your communication media, from posters around your town, individual mailers, and most importantly, active social media accounts.
