Community Center: How To Get Your Town More Involved

Tips For Boosting Community Involvement At Your Community Center

Community center involvement
A community center is a great way to connect a community and develop relationships. However, the community center is only the facilitator. The people of your town or city have to be on board as well — and as many facility planners find out, that is harder than it sounds.
For developers, it’s important to get out ahead of this process. It should be your goal to have the community invested in your facility before it even opens, and there are a few ways that you can speed up that process. In today’s post, SFA will give you some tips on how to make sure your community is committed to their new community center.

Plan Events

The best way to build excitement for your new facility is to plan events. When a town gets a new community center, there is always going to be excitement. A recreation center is a shiny new toy for any town. However, that doesn’t promote long-term involvement. To do that, you have to get people in the doors.
Establish programming and events well before your facility opens, and start signing people up. And for new facilities, the most important event will be opening day. This is a great way to get a lot of people in your doors, but it is also an opportunity to get them connected to the facility long-term.

Promote, Promote, Promote

Planning events is great, but without promotion, they aren’t going to go very far.
This is especially true of a new community center because people in your town likely won’t know what you offer. Movie theatres don’t need great promotion to drive their product because people know exactly why they are going to a movie theatre. You need to let your community know what you have to offer.
Promotion is not only for letting your town know what you offer, but it is also a great way to hype up your event. For new facilities, opening day should be an absolute spectacle, and everybody in your town should know about it. To get your community involved, you have to bring excitement.

Get The City Involved

Private businesses have to do all of their promotion as private entities. However, community centers, especially in smaller towns, won’t have a difficult time getting the city behind them. In fact, many recreation centers are the product of the city. Take advantage of having your town behind you and supporting you. Allow them to help you promote and grow.
